Search and Rescue Hovercraft
Following the successful Guest Post by Johnnie Walker from Sussar last week, something else new for Re-Search this weekend; I’m selling out to corporate sponsorship!
Well sort of, searching the web this week I found a company selling hovercraft which can be used for search and rescue. My immediate thought?

Search and Rescue Hovercraft
I want one of them!
And it just happens that they have an affiliate scheme, so if I “sell” 20 search and rescue hovercraft, I get to have one for myself!
Who or where would benefit from using a SAR Hovercraft?
For missing person search along coastlines, over mud, marshland and sandbanks; launch from land and search any terrain from the one platform!
For flood work; can be used whatever the depth of the water, no need for personnel in the water, no risk of propeller damage from underwater obstructions.
A stable rescue platform whatever the surface!
So if you are looking for a Search and Rescue Hovercraft, why not use the form below?
For more information about how to get a Search and Rescue Hovercraft for your organisation, contact Reaction International Limited using the form below;
And if I post more information about Search and Rescue Hovercraft over time, you’ll know why!

Considering more than half the units in the UK aren’t even deploying mountain bikes, (cheap, easy to deploy, effective, and mathmatically proven by no less an authority than R Bradley to be a very worthwhile resource) then this may be a bridge too far. Perhaps ALSAR should buy a hovercraft for units who have already been deploying bike teams for 5 years. \we’d like ours in green and yellow please, or maybe black, with a jolly roger on the front.
You say a stable platform to rescue into? It doesn’t look very big – would question the efficiency of such a small craft for flood rescue work – it looks like it seats two? A 4.3m inflatable can carry up to 8 and can be pulled by flood access trained searchers wading, or driven in deeper flood water if anyone had a swift water boat operator qualification. Possibly cheaper than a hovercraft, but not as flexible?
I think Rob needs to show that the hovercraft is an effective search resource before teams look to purchasing their own. I think that Rob needs to get hold of several, and then units can meet for an exercise where we look into how effective hovercraft searching and/or rescuing is? I could probably find some volunteers?
One of the crafts definitely needs a Jolly Roger for Johnnie!
Bike teams are definitely a good resource. For our unit, a distant dream. Much more attainable than a hovercraft though!
Hmm…I join this conversation late in the game, so will anyone see this..? I do hope not… Now personally the idea of floating devices fills me with dread-I am fat, have zero balancing ability and even get sea sick on the canal…and as fork bikes, yet again having a huge bottom and zero balance is a definate disadvantage..! How about as well as on the water, we venture further in it..? Im not on about the new 3 stage Water Safety course, although the MR mag photo of Adrian drowning in white water IS a classic..! Im on about divers. We have many v qualified divers in SSART, inc Rescue divers and our Team doctor dives most weekends, in the UK, in winter-I know, cos its MY bloody bathroom full of his dripping, stinky kit each week! Are there a zillion Health & Safety rules that prevent us searching under the water..? I admit I am clueless…?
