Great evening training with Hampshire Search and Rescue
Impressed by the friendly atmosphere, teamwork & the technical difficulty of ensuring every area covered at night on rough terrain… Martin Tod
Sounds like a good evening all round, good publicity, good networking and good search training!

Rob,
It was a tricky exercise for our new Training Officer to sort out as we also had 15 brand new recruits attending. But after a quick explanation of the searchers cube and a few other technique they all did very well and we look forward to seeing them next time.
Martin also ended up being roped in to assist as a stretcher bearer to recover our misper to a place of safety.
I thought the two MP’s were just going to observe for half an hour and clear off but I was delighted to see them get in there with the teams and really enjoy themselves getting an insight in to the volunarty work we do.
We also had the opportunity to discuss issues that affect us and all other Search and Rescue teams in the country such as the issue of VAT, members personal expenses and equipment costs.
A quick question: How do you train to search for a missing person? Stats are a great comfort blanket but they don’t find people every time. If, when training, you are placing your ‘missing person’ in a certain place for your people to find then are you ‘proving’ the stats work. If you place that person randomly then would they find them?
