http://www.baysearchandrescue.org.uk is the web site for bay sar at cumbria, also an IFRA team.
T24 are based in Sussex, so I have a reasonable understanding of them.
They are nice guys, and well meaning. However, they do not provide the services they claim, and take charitable money away from the ‘real’ SAR groups operating in county: SusSAR and Lowland Search Dogs Sussex.
Have they been involved in Searches and/or Rescues in Sussex? No
Do Sussex Police use them for the search and subsequent rescue of vulnerable missing people? No
Did they discuss county requirements with the Police or other agencies before setting up? No
Any other relevant questions?
I have to question the purpose and use of STAR rescue also.
Their stated skills are:-
Ø Land missing person search techniques
Ø Scenes of crime or evidence searches
Ø Low angle Rope access
Ø Casualty care and extraction
Ø Water incident response
Ø Support to the emergency services- including CBRN
Lots of training exercises but as far as I can see not a single callout since 2007. Website still carries the banner claiming the website is new and setup in 2008!
Website also claims Police accredited SAR training, when in fact there is no such thing that I am aware of.
Ditto Johnnies questions.
Hi all I work for SECAMB and we have used T24, they lent us 4x4s with drivers to take out Ambulance Responders in the snow also help us rescue a young man from the Down in the snow very nice guys.
But I think anyone who gives up there time to help others is great in my book, also it’s not who finds them but just that someone finds them so well done to you all.
Just to add, Bay SAR, decided not to Join IFRA for various reasons…
I know this is an old post, but couldn’t help but notice one conspicuous point. The list mentioned above is now considerably shorter on the IFRA web site.
As seen on other posts, the aims and objectives of IFRA are quite clear and an exciting prospect… why have teams now left what sounds like a good deal?
The points raised in ealrier comments aren’t just limited to SAR teams. We have seen a number of co-responder agencies, volunteer fire agencies all claiming to be accredited. Only to find that they are simply well intentioned non-regulated organisations who aspire to make a difference.
In the current climate regulation is becoming tighter and tighter and I do believe that before long that the non-regulated, non-registered organisations will be encouraged to join established associations or will simply be ignored.
I live in hope that one day, that issues like the ones raised in earlier posts will be non existent for the best interests of the people we serve and also to give the registered teams the credit they deserve.
I’ve just re-read earlier post, who else is offering CBRN training? And to what syllabus? Seems a little odd for voluntary orgnisations to offer such service
